THE GOATS
HERD ORIGINS
All current herd members, both male and female, are registered
Golden Guernseys and derive from Marina Scarf ‘s Aureum
herd which has been a closed herd since 1980. Her breeding
aims are for heavy milking stock that are healthy, with good
temperaments and conformation; in this she has been exceptionally
successful. A policy I am striving to continue.
Both the original Aureum females were of Tawnybird origins
and both go back to Gosey Tessa, via Tawnybird Kleopatra and
Tansy Frynwyn (via Capridor Aria and
Tawnybird Jocasta). Males on the female side are Sark Rudi
(via Chickering Pepetedor) and Tudor Midas.
Gosey Tessa being the foundation goat of Jill Doe’s
‘Tawnybird’ herd. Her progeny included her granddaughter
R170 Tawnybird Krumpet* for many years the highest recorded
Golden Guernsey milker. Tessa’s influence extended to
many other herds including Aureum, Kerney, Peasehill, Millstream
and Maplemoor.
On the male side the Aureum goats trace back to two males:
Gaston de Croix Jehans (via his son Ardrig Athelstan) and
Heathley Jacob, who carried a lot of Megel breeding in his
veins and goes back to Tudor Vergee (via Albric Samson).
As is the case with all registered Goldens their breeding
eventually goes back to imported Island bred goats.

The boys are easy going, have very good temperaments and

in the field every day, coming in obediently when called for
their tea!
